Moderate to brisk voting has been reported despite scorching heat in most of the 89 Lok Sabha constituencies across 7 States and two Union Territories that went to polls today.
In West Bengal eighty percent polling was recorded in nine parliamentary seats till five this afternoon. The voting is on in many polling booths.
The state Chief Electoral Officer Mr. Sunil Gupta told AIR that voting was by and large peaceful barring a few stray incidents. In Andhra Pradesh, an average of 65 per cent polling has been reported up to 5 PM.
In Uttar Pradesh about 54 percent voting has taken place till 5 PM in the 14 constituencies that went to polls in the state today. In Bihar over 47 percent voting has been reported upto 3.00 PM in the seven Lok Sabha constituencies.
In Punjab, around 70 per cent polling is reported till now and long queues are there outside the polling booths at many places. CEO, Punjab V.K.Singh said that all voters which are in queue at 6p.m. will be allowed to vote.
