In Gujarat, after the schedule of Assembly Elections has been announced , the model code of conduct is being implemented strictly through out the state. State Chief Electoral Officer Ms. Anita Karwal has said that Election Commission is keeping stringent watch on candidates' election expenditure.
As soon as a candidate submits his or her poll campaign itinerary to the local police , a copy of it is being sent to returning officer, who conducts video surveillance of the public meeting. Election officials also match information on the form with the expenditure at the actual location.
Our Ahmedabad correspondent reports that the footage of public meeting and rally will be sent to a special accounting team, who will audit everything from number of chairs and tables, sound system and pandal cost to the area covered or hired for the meeting.
The commission has urged the public to call its toll free numbers to inform on any meetings candidates may hold without its knowledge.
Meanwhile, Political parties in the state have geared up to complete the selection process of their candidates- for the two phase polling scheduled on 13th and 17th December 2012.
