In Odisha, both the state government and maoists have failed to come to terms over release of abducted ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA, Jhina Hikaka. After the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoist) holding the legislator, giving deadline till the 18th of this month for the release of 29 prisoners, no serious effort was made on Monday by the Odisha Government to move bail petitions for the prisoners. The state government has also rejected demand of the Maoists to withdraw all cases against the 29 prisoners. It has only advised filing of bail petitions for 17 members of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha and 8 members of CPI (Maoist), a move already rejected by the Maoist organsaition.Hikaka, a tribal MLA, has been held hostage by Maoists since the 23rd of last month.
