Mizoram Women & Organic Farming – A report

The International Women's Day will be celebrated on 8th of this month. In the run up to this occasion, we are highlighting exemplary performances, struggles and key contribution of women from across the country. Traditionally, women are taking lead role at home and they are also showing the ways at out-door activities – in education, cultural fields, sports to higher science and space programs and also business and innovations.<br />” <br />” Here is a report of a woman showing the way in organic farming in Mizoram.<br />” <br />” &quot;In Mizoram, many women are presently engaged in various sorts of economic activities like horticulture, floriculture and also organic farming. With these occupations, they are becoming self-reliant, serving families and also contribute to the state’s economy.While the State Government is promoting organic farming with support being provided for grasping techniques like vermi-culture, composting, use of crop residue, animal manures and green manures. Training to the farmers is also conducted regularly on various organic crops. Following this, many farmers, like Ms Laltanpuii are now reaping success with higher yields and income from organic farming. Ms Laltanpuii is farming mustard plants at 10 acre land reaping 500 kilogram mustard leaves and earning at&nbsp; around 1.5 lakh rupees in a year. Sharing her experience, Ms Laltanpuii said — Under the Mission, Organic Value Chain Development for Northeast East Region, the state has given maximum focus on cultivation of organic tea, turmeric, ginger and Mizo Chili.<br />
