Mizoram: Stage is set for voting tomorrow to elect 40 members of Mizoram Legislative Assembly

In Mizoram, the stage is set ready for voting tomorrow to elect 40 members of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly. A total of more than 8.57 lakh voters will participate in the election. Voting will take place in 1276 polling stations across the State. There are 29 polling stations that were declared as "vulnerable" while there is one polling station which is declared as "critical" by the poll panel.<br />''<br />''The State Election Department is making elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of polls. Speaking to Akashvani News this afternoon in Aizawl today, Chief Electoral Officer Madhup Vyas said that foolproof security arrangements are in place leaving nothing to chance for smooth conduct of elections. He said that all the polling stations are set up with "Assured Minimum Facilities". Mr Vyas appealed to the voters to come out in large numbers for a record highest turn-out in this election.<br />''<br />''A total of 174 candidates including 16 women are in the fray. The ruling Mizo National Front, Indian National Congress, and the Zoram People's Movement are fielding candidates in all 40 seats while the BJP is fighting in 23 Assembly constituencies. The Aam Aadmi Party is contesting in four Assembly segments while there are 27 Independent candidates in the electoral battle. <br />''<br />''<br />''Akasvani correspondent reports, that the fate of 174 candidates will be sealed tomorrow when more than 8 lakh 57 thousand voters will press the EVM baton in 1276 polling stations. Voting will take place from 7 AM to 4 PM. Extensive arrangement is being made for webcasting in 60 percent of the polling stations across the state. All polling officials have now reached their place of destination. Meanwhile, the state Election Department is taking up all measures leaving nothing to chance for ensuring peaceful, transparent, free, and fair elections.
