Mizoram Sports Minister Inaugurates Khelo India University Games, Highlights Football as Viable Career for Youth

In Mizoram, Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar said that sports unites people and fosters the spirit of brotherhood among different sections of society.<br />''<br />''The Minister was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Men's Football of the Khelo India University Games held at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl today.<br />''<br />''Mr Hmar said that unlike in the past, football becoming a profession and a career option for the youth is now a reality with many players now earning handsome income through their expertise to support their families.<br />''<br />''The Minister encouraged the players to give their best efforts in the competition and wished them to create a conducive sports environment for a lasting memorable memory.<br />''<br />''In the competition, 8 Universities are competing for the title – 3 teams from Kerala, 2 teams from Punjab, 2 teams from West Bengal and 1 team from Maharashtra.<br />''<br />''Around 175 athletes with 25 support staff and 22 technical officials and 70 volunteers are taking part in the game.<br />''<br />''In today's matches, Punjab University, Patiala defeated Kolkatta University by 2:0 while Calicut University, Kerala defeated Guru Nanak Dev University by 3:1.<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The Mizoram Edition of Khelo India University Games will go till February 27.</span><br />
