Mizoram: Farmers use innovative method to tackle pest attacks on maize crops

<span style="color: #222222;">In Mizoram, amid the stressful time of Covid19 pandemic, more trouble has surfaced with pest attacks on maize crops in the state.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">However, the setback has pushed ahead 1,220 affected farmer families of Zote South village in Serchhip district to adopt an innovative method to fight against the worm. Farmers said, after spraying disinfectants, they are using sharp pointed cane sticks to kill worms. <br />''<br />''A farmer Lalremruata, also a gramsevak said, the offspring of maize are not damaged with this hand picking method and they have been able to save crops. He said, about 35.60-hectare area was affected by FallArmyWorm, FAW, and now they have secured crops in 25.3-hectare area. The method is giving good results. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The FAW, a dangerous insect and pest had a devastating attack on maize crops in vast areas of the state causing huge loss to farmers. To mitigate the problem, the agriculture department has also been giving training and means to farmers.</span><br />''
