The 24 hours nation-wide bandh called by some Central trade unions, has evoked mixed response in West Bengal on Tuesday. Train services of the Eastern and South Eastern Railways were normal. However, most of the shops and establishments, educational institutions and tea gardens in North Bengal were closed. In Kolkata, State owned buses, Metro Railways, flight operations at Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport and Cargo handling at Kolkata and Haldia Port were normal.AIR Kolkata Correspondent reports that sporadic clashes were reported from Rajarhat in North 24 Pargana, Daspore in West Midnapore and North Dinajpore district during the bandh. Police arrested more than 500 bandh supporters from different parts of the state.The Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the bandh has failed to get public support. Miss Banerjee said that, the bandh is not the future of the state and the destructive culture of calling bandh will end after getting befitting reply from the people. The Opposition leader Dr. Surya Kanta Misra claimed that the people responded spontaneously to the bandh call despite various threats from the Government.
