<br/>The Recommendations made by the Group of Ministers (GoM) on Bhopal gas disaster have drawn a mixed reaction from the NGOs working for the rights of those affected by the 1984 gas tragedy. <br/> <br/>They termed the compensation suggested by the GoM as inadequate but welcomed the decision to file a curative petition in the Supreme Court to challenge a 1996 ruling in the case and take steps for extradition of Warren Anderson, the US-based former Union Carbide Chairman. They said, the compensation is inadequate, especially for nearly 94 per cent partially affected persons. <br/> <br/>The Bhopal Group for Information and Action said, besides there is no concrete provision for environmental safety, and economic rehabilitation of the affected persons in the GoM's recommendations. <br/> <br/>Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangthan Convenor Abdul Jabbar said, there is no provision in the recommendations for the social and economic rehabilitation of the gas-affected people. <br/> <br/>Expressing his satisfaction over the 1,320-crore rupee package, the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President, Mr. Suresh Pachouri said it was a positive step taken by the GoM for proper rehabilitation of the gas victims. <br/> <br/>The CPM State Secretary Badal Saroj however said in a statement that the hike in compensation announced by the GoM is irrational and is a repetition of the past mistakes.<br/>
