Minority student scholarships to shoot up by three times: Khurshid

Minority student scholarship is to go up more than three times.

Minister of Law, Justice and Minority Affairs Salman Khurshid has said that the Centre is thinking of increasing the number of beneficiaries from the current level of 50 lakh to one crore sixty lakh during the 12th plan.

the Addressing the Minority Cell leaders of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee in Kochi this evening, Khurshid said the government has decided in principle to adopt the in central Kerala model of reservation for minorities government jobs.

He said an effective anti-corruption bill will be introduced in the next session of parliament.

The government is also planning to bring in electoral reforms that bars a person involved in heinous crimes from contesting the polls.

It is also contemplating state funding of elections to check the flow of black money.

Earlier, speaking to media persons Khurshid observed that there is nothing wrong in taking out a march without creating law and order problems.

He was referring to the protest march planned by the CPI-M to the Kerala High Court on Monday, in protest against its recent order sentencing partly leader M V Jayarajan to six months imprisonment.

He said when matters relating to the court are dealt with, one should not overstep the limits.
