Ministry of Railways observes World Environment Day

Ministry of Railways today celebrated World Environment Day in New Delhi. Addressing a seminar on the occasion, Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu said that the biggest challenges of the world are global warming and climate change and his Ministry is committed towards creating an environment friendly atmosphere. <br/><br/>On the occasion, Mr. Prabhu released Sustainability Report 2017 and gave away excellence awards to the railways officials for their contribution towards environmental development in Railways. He said that plantation of trees is the major concern of the Ministry and this year 1.25 crore saplings have been planted by Railways. <br/><br/>He further added that the Ministry has been working hard to double the target of electrification of railway tracks. <br/><br/>Ministry of Railways have been focusing on green certification of Railways buildings and stations in collaboration with CII. The Ministry, under its new water policy, has reduced 20 percent of fresh water consumption and set up water recycling and rain water harvesting plants.
