Ministry of External Affairs boosts online mechanisms for registration of migrants

Government has strengthened its online mechanisms for registration of migrants especially women to curb exploitation of blue-collared Indian workers including taxi drivers, maids and nurses abroad. <br/><br/>Briefing reporters in New Delhi yesterday, Joint Secretary and Protector General of Emigrants, MC Luther said, the system aims at transforming emigration into a simple, transparent, orderly and humane process. He said, over 1.5 lakh emigration clearances have been granted since the launch of eMigrate project by the Ministry in May, 2014. <br/><br/>He said, the system enables the reach and ability to regulate the emigration for overseas employment and help tracking of emigrants country-wise to reach out to them in need. Mr Luther said, all the key stakeholders including recruiting agents, foreign employers, Indian Missions, Passport Seva project and Bureau of Immigration are interlinked to provide fast, cost-effective and legal framework to Indian workers for overseas recruitment and emigration. He said, the system provides a swift and online grievance redressal system.
