Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change celebrated the 'Hariyali Mahotsav' – the Tree festival – in New Delhi today. Commemorating the 75th year of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', this year, the festival aims to create awareness about the importance of trees and green cover to protect the environment against air pollution and global warming. The festival involves plantation activities at 75 Nagar Vans, 75 kilometers of road length around 75 Police institutions, in 75 schools in Delhi, and 75 degraded sites across the country.<br />'' <br />'' Speaking on the occasion, Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav motivated young students toward a Single-Use Plastic Free India and plantation of trees to protect the biodiversity and ecological balance in the country. He said, at times when the entire world is having adverse impacts of climate change, the need for mass plantation drive across the country is a must to combat these environmental challenges as trees and forests play a very crucial role in maintaining an ecological balance. &nbsp;<br />'' <br />''Mr Yadav also said that trees and forests contribute to the environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife. Our Correspondent reports that a large number of school children participated in this festival with great enthusiasm. Minister of State in the Ministry Ashwini Kumar Choubey was also present on this occasion.
