Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur has been awarded by the Ministry of Civil Aviation for the speedy installation of the ultra-modern Air Traffic Control Automation System named as Indra. Airport Director Mr. Ashok Kumar Verma received the award from Civil Aviation Minister Mr. Ajit Singh. The ambitious project of installing the new radar system had been given to 38 cities all over the country and Nagpur was the only city in which it was successfully commissioned within one year.Airport Director Mr. Verma told reporters in Nagpur that the state-of-the-art system erected at a cost of Rs. Four crore, which uses the air traffic control technology developed by the Spanish Information Technology and Defence Systems Company, now plays a critical role at the Air Traffic Control at Nagpur. This system is presently being used in 176 countries and meets all requirements of air safety.
