Union Water Resources Minister Harish Rawat has said the government is ready to face any motion brought by the opposition on the floor of parliament. Talking to the reporters on the sidelines of a function to mark the Water Conservation Day in New Delhi today, the Minister said the opposition should be prepared to suggest an alternative to the current model of governance.
Earlier in the function, Mr. Rawat said, celebration of the birth anniversary of Mrs. Indira Gandhi as Water Conservation Day is befitting to her stature as she was one of the first world leaders who spoke on environment preservation.
Highlighting the importance of water conservation the Minister said, India has four per cent of the total drinking water available on the earth as against the demand of 17 per cent of the world population. In such a scenario, the conservation of water should be the government's top priority. He added ; making laws for conservation is not sufficient but public support is a must to carry on this task.
