Minister says no coal blocks allocated since 2009

Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal today said the government has not allocated any coal blocks since 2009. Rejecting the allegation that coal blocks were allocated during his tenure without proper screening, Mr Jaiswal said no coal block has been allocated during UPA-II regime.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, he said if any Member of Parliament is making any such statement, then he is misleading the media as well as the nation. The Coal Minister also dismissed BJP’s reported allegations that the minister sanctioned coal blocks to three private companies in late 2011 without any auction.

Asserting that the government is ready for a debate on the CAG report on coal blocks allocation, Mr Jaiswal appealed to the opposition to allow the Parliament to function smoothly.
