Minister of Women & Child Devt Tirath to chair Conference of State Ministers

Issues relating to the implementation of the Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls – ‘SABLA’ and the Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana’ (IGMSY )will top the agenda at a conference of the States’ Ministers in charge of Women and Child Development, to be held in New Delhi today . While SABLA is aimed at addressing the needs of adolescent girls in the age group of 11-18 years, the objective of IGMSY is to provide part compensation of wage losses incurred due to pregnancy and post delivery circumstances. The Minister of Women and Child Development Mrs. Krishna Tirath will chair the Conference which will also discuss ways to improve delivery of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme and addressing malnutrition. Progress in implementation of Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) and a Bill relating to protection of Women against Sexual Harassment will also be deliberated. Ministry of Women and Child Development has also proposed a special law for ‘Protection of Children from Sexual Offences. The draft bill in this regard ich has been circulated to the sates to get their views. Apart from provision for the safety and security of the children , stringent punishment is proposed under the Bill to act as deterrent for offenders.
