The Minimum Support Price of wheat increased by 20 rupees, a quintal and pulses up to 380 rupees. Approving the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Rabi Crops of 2010 -11 season, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs raised the support price of wheat from 1100 to 1120 rupees, a quintal, Masoor by 380 rupees and Gram by 340 rupees. The MSP for safflower has been raised by 120 rupees and Barley by 30 rupees a quintal.AIR correspondent says that the government has raised the MSP of pulses substantially this year to boost production and cut dependence on imports.In another decision, pregnant and lactating woman will receive a cash incentive of four thousand rupees each under the Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana. It will be implemented on pilot basis in 52 selected districts. Home Minister P. Chidambaram said that it will benefit 13.8 lakh pregnant and lactating women in the initial years.In yet another decision to benefit common man, street vendors are to be covered under National health Insurance Scheme – the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana. The scheme is presently meant for families living Below the Poverty Line. But the Cabinet has decided to extend it to street vendors now.4.21 lakh street vendors will be covered during the current financial year itself. The government proposes to cover all the registered street vendors by 2013-14. The beneficiaries of this scheme are entitled to get up to 30 thousand rupees for most of the diseases, which require hospitalisation.The Cabinet has given its green signal to amendments to the Enemy Property Act. The amendment includes the provision that the Enemy Property can be divested only to the owners or his lawful heir and will continue to vest in the custodian till it is divested by the Centre.The Cabinet has approved amendments to the Seeds Bill, 2004, aimed at regulating the quality of seeds and ensuring their availability to the farmers.The Cabinet also approved a proposal to declare National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore as an Institute of National Importance on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.A bill will be introduced in Parliament in this regard. The Institute will be able to take up new courses that are required and are not currently part of the MCI approved courses.
