The government has notified the minimum monthly pension of Rs 1,000 and a higher wage ceiling enhancement to 15,000 form Rs 6,500 for social security schemes run by retirement fund manager Employees Provident Fund Organisation. Both the schemes will be implemented form the 1st of next month. According to , EPFO estimates, the raising of wage ceiling is expected to bring 50 lakh more workers under the ambit of social security schemes run by it. The government's decision to fix pension entitlement of Rs1,000 under the Employees' Pension Scheme will immediately benefit 28 lakh, including 5 lakh widows pensioners ,who get less than this amount at present. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation had recently retained a rate of interest of 8.75 per cent on provident fund deposits for the current fiscal year 2014-15. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Union Budget had announced that an employee earning up to Rs. 15,000 per month will have to mandatorily maintain an employee provident fund account.
