Government has said the minimum addition of nine square metres of carpet area to the existing house will be mandatory for being eligible for central assistance under a component of Prime Minister' Awas Yojana (Urban) scheme. The new guidelines also mandate that after adding the required nine square metre carpet area, total carpet area should not be less than 21 square metre and must not be more than 30 square metre.<br/><br/>Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Ministry, in a release said, the minimum addition of carpet area to the existing pucca or semi-pucca house shall now be ensured for being eligible for Central assistance of 1.50 lakh rupees per beneficiary. The Ministry has issued these guidelines to States and Union territories for compliance while sending affordable housing proposals for enhancement of existing houses.
