In Andhra Pradesh, despite tight security arrangements, the Million March protest was held in Hyderabad today. Incidents of violence have been reported including setting on fire few police vehicles and a private media van during the protest called by Telangana Joint Action Committee. Hundreds of agitators including women have breached police barricades and reached the Tank Bund in Hyderabad. They have taken oath that they would further strengthen the agitation for statehood for Telangana. Police could restrict the number of agitators taken part in the March following prohibitory orders and traffic restrictions imposed in and around Hyderabad. However, the agitators have damaged and pulled down 4-5 statues of legendary personalities of the state which are famous as Pride of Telugu Speaking People (Telugu Velugulu).Earlier, police have taken scores of agitators into custody. They have foiled the bid by Osmania University Students and Employees who tried to take out rallies to the Million March. Mild tension prevailed on the occasion on the university campus when police fired teargas shells to control the agitating students.Meanwhile, the Normal life has been badly hit in the state Capital due to heavy traffic restrictions. People had to face hardships due to lack of public transport services on all major routes in Hyderabad following traffic diversions imposed in the wake of the Million March. The protest March has been supported by Telnagana Rastra Samithi, CPI and BJP and TDP and Congress leaders from Telangana Region. Demanding introduction of the bill in Parliament to carve out Telangana state, the Telangana JAC has called for the Million March protest. Tight security arrangements have been made and additional forces including central security forces have been deployed at all important places and key installations in Hyderabad.
