Military operations against Taliban militants in Kandahar force over 900 families to leave their houses

An Afghan official says military operations against Taliban militants in Kandahar province have forced over 900 families to leave their houses for safer places. In an interview with Xinhua news agency, the Head of Refugees department in the province, Mohammad Azim Nawabi said since launching operations in Arghandab district, 626 families have left their homes and many of these refugees have been living with their relatives in Kandahar city. He also said 250 families have left Jalai district and 25 more families left Panjwai district for safer places. The joint Afghan-NATO-led forces operation against Taliban militants in Arghandab district was launched one month ago while similar operations covering Jalai and Panjwai districts have been continuing over the past two weeks to wipe out militants.
