Militants surrender in Manipur; in Orissa Maoists blew up block office in Malkangiri

In Manipur, six more militants surrendered before the state government today with one M-16 rifle, one AK-47 rifle and 4 pistols. Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police, Manipur Mr. Y. Joykumar said that state police will extend all possible help to make the surrendered militants a responsible citizen of the society.In Orissa, armed maoists blew up one block office at Padia in Malkangiri district early this morning. About 50 heavily armed red-rebels stormed into the area under Kalimela police station and triggered a landmine explosion to blow up the newly built block office building. After the blast, the red ultras disappeared into the nearby forest raising slogans against anti-naxal operations by the security forces. The ultras had recently blown up the police outpost at Padia. They also killed one father-son due at the same place suspecting them as police informer. Over a dozen buildings including village panchayat offices, godowns and schools have been destroyed by the maoists so far this year.
