In the Philippines, 11 people were killed and hundreds of houses torched when about 70 Islamic militants raided a village on a remote southern island. The villagers were asleep when the rebels started spraying houses with automatic gunfire, setting them on fire. Nearly 20 others, including four children were wounded in the attack.
