Militants attack Kandahar airfield with rockets

In Afghanistan, militants attacked Kandahar airfield in south with rockets and indirect fire last night leading to many injuries. A NATO statement said five rockets were fired at the base and a number of insurgents attempted to enter the base on the north side. It said though no insurgents penetrated the base perimeter, a number of ISAF personnel and civilian workers were injured and are receiving medical treatment. Military personnel and civilian workers on the base have been instructed to remain in safe locations as a precaution. Kandahar is the second largest airbase in Afghanistan after Bagram near Kabul which also came under attack this Wednesday. At least 16 militants and one US contractor were killed in the incident. <br/>
