Militant attack kills more than 10 people including 4 UN staff

Afghanistan capital Kabul came under multiple attacks by Taliban militants on Wednesday killing more than 10 people including four UN staff.
Militants attacked a UN guest house in the city centre early morning on Wednesday and engaged security personnel in gun fighting for around two hours killing six foreigners including UN staff. Interior ministry spokesman Zemarai Bashary said another five foreigners were wounded in the attack while three suicide bombers were killed during the police operation. The militants were carrying heavy machineguns and rocket-propelled grenades. A UN spokesman said that 20 UN staffs were known to be registered for the guest house but he was unsure whether all were there at the time of the attack.
There were also reports of two rocket attacks and a suicide bomb attack elsewhere in the city. One rocket landed near a highly secure five-star hotel but there were no immediate reports of injuries. A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility, saying it was meant as an assault on the upcoming presidential election.
