An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted southeastern Dominican Republic early this morning. According to the country's seismological institute, the quake occurred at 00:35 a.m. (local time) with its epicentre on the Saona Island at a depth of 100 kilometres.It said no tsunami alert was issued and there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage from the quake. The quake was strongly felt in Santo Domingo and could also be felt in Cuba and Puerto Rico.
