Micro-planning needed for population stabilisation: Nadda

Health Minister J P Nadda has said micro-planning is the key to bringing down the targeted Total Fertility Rate (TFR) and achieve the goal of population stabilisation. Addressing a function to mark the World Population Day in New Delhi today, Mr Nadda said, the TFR in 23 districts of the country is above four per cent, which include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. He said, the Ministry has to pay a special focus on these districts. The Minister said, there are 123 districts ranging in seven states where the TFR is between 3 to 3.9 per cent. <br/><br/>TFR is the average number of children expected to be born per woman during her entire span of reproductive period and India has a TFR target of 2.1 per cent. Mr Nadda emphasized on the need to enhance male participation in the family planning process and urged that the country cannot achieve the desired results unless the men are not motivated to actively take part in family planning.
