Meteorological Centre to install Dopler Weather Raadar at Panaji

Meteorological Centre at Panaji in Goa will soon have a Dopler Weather Radar installed in the premises of centre at Panaji at a cost of more than 5 crore rupees. Mr. Shantaram Naik M.P. who visited the centre on Tuesday said that the Government of India is proposing to install 12 Chinese made Radars at important cities and ports in the country. <br/><br/>Mr. Naik said that with the help of the new radar, the Metrological Centre at Goa will be able to forecast weather conditions more accurately than before. Mr. Naik said that on 24th November 2009, he raised the issue regarding failure of Meteorological Centre of Goa to respond to the situation created by sudden floods at Canacona, Goa, on 02nd October 2009.<br/><br/>Shri Prithviraj Chauhan, Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, had, thereafter, directed the Director In charge of Goa Metrological Office Shri K.V.Singh, to contact Mr. Naik personally in this connection. However, Mr. Naik volunteered himself to visit the office of the Metrological Centre to understand the working of the centre.
