Met office says the month of August has been wetter than expected. Rains in the last 16 days have lashed most parts of the country, especially the northern and western parts which were reeling under rain deficiency. Water in 84 main reservoirs is at 51 per cent of the full reservoir level.

Indian Meterological Department has forecast August rains to be 96 per cent of normal. It was 99 per cent of normal in the first week and 98 per cent in the second week.
