MeT issues alert for very heavy rain in South Bengal; warns fishermen not to venture into sea

In West Bengal, the regional meteorological department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in some districts of south Bengal on 4th and 5th December. A low-pressure area lying over central parts of Andaman Sea and neighborhood is likely to move west-northwestwards and turn into a depression today and intensify into a cyclonic storm over the next 24 hours. Due to this, thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds and heavy to very heavy rainfall have been predicted over the districts of Gangetic West Bengal, including Kolkata. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea from 3rd to 5th December. It also issued an advisory to the farmers, asking them to complete harvesting matured rice and paddy before the onset of extreme weather conditions and store the grains in a safe place.<br />''<br />''<br />
