Widespread rains continued to lash many parts of the state since yesterday.&nbsp;</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">&nbsp;</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">As the Northeast&nbsp; monsoon season is yet to get over, the city and some parts of the state have been experiencing light to moderate rainfall due to an easterly wave or an elongated region of relatively low pressure. This is for the first time in hundred years that the state has witnessed rains measuring more than ten cms for a day in the month of January. Chennai was almost flooded&nbsp;on a single day creating traffic snarls and also prompted the release of water from the nearby reservoirs.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">&nbsp;</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">According to the Met Department, the easterly wave will also bring rainfall to other coastal areas in Southern TamilNadu.&nbsp;</span><br />'' &nbsp;
