Haryana Vidhan Sabha speaker, Mr Kuldeep Sharma today pronounced the merger of the Haryana Janhit Congress, HJC with the Congress party. In a judgment of a case relating to joining of five legislators of HJC in Congress, the Speaker dismissed all petitions and clubbed them as one petition while deciding the case.
The speaker who announced the 29-page judgment in a press conference at Haryana Vidhan Sabha complex in Chandigarh said that he has accepted the merger of the HJC with the Congress under the provisions of the 10th schedule of the Constitution of India which allows such a merger provided it is supported by two-third strength of the Legislators.
These five MLA`s Satpal Sangwan, Vinod Bhyana, Narender Singh, Zile Ram and Dharam Singh had joined Congress and helped the party in the formation of the Government in the State in 2009.
HJC Chief Kuldeep Bishnoi decides to move court against speaker's order. When he was asked to comment about the status of HJC as a political party, he said that the original political party has been merged with Congress and the status of HJC can be asked from the Election Commission of India.
HJC had sought disqualification of these five members of the State Legislative Assembly from the membership of Vidhan Sabha under the 10th Scheduled of the Constitution for defecting the HJC and joining the Congress. The Supreme Court on Sept 28, last year had directed the Speaker to decide the petition within three months.
