Mercury today hovered below normal in most parts of north India as heavy rains drenched Uttar Pradesh and Punjab-Haryana region while an overcast sky engulfed the national capital Delhi and Rajasthan.Torrential rains continued to pour over Uttar Pradesh where eight more people perished, pushing the death toll since the advent of monsoon in the state to over 50.Heavy rains were also reported from parts of Punjab and Haryana as the temperatures stayed below normal.Ambala recorded a maximum temperature of 33 deg C, down by a notch, while the high in Hisar settled at 29.5 degrees after receiving 19 mm of rains. Karnal registered a high of 32 deg C, down by two notches.Meanwhile, weather remained cloudy in the nationalcapital, pushing temperatures below normal for the second consecutive day. In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 29.5 deg C, down six notches while Ludhiana had a pleasant day at 30.7 deg C, down by four degrees. The desert state of Rajasthan received moderate rains with Bikaner being the wettest with 18.4 mm rainfall. Sriganganagar and Churu recorded 9.8 and one mm rainfall respectively as most parts of the state witnessed an overcast.Meanwhile, in Haryana, two school children were killed when an old haveli collapsed due to heavy rain and flood in Ramsara village of Bhattukalan in Fatehabad district today.
