The triumphant Indian men's junior hockey team has returned home to a warm reception after clinching the Asia Cup title in Malaysia. The team reached New Delhi late last night and Hockey India officials and fans received the players at the airport with the beating of the drums and with garlands. India drubbed Oman 9-0 in the quarterfinals and then beat Japan 6-1 in the semi-finals. In the summit clash, India beat arch-rivals Pakistan 6-2 to lift the trophy. Almost fifty per cent of the goals India scored came from drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh who top-scored with 15 goals and was awarded the Top Scorer of the Tournament. Indian goalkeeper Vikas Dhaiya proved his mettle as opposition sides could barely find the board and he took the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament award. Hockey India has rewarded the players and the coach with Rs 1 Lakh each and the support staff with Rs 50,000 each for their performance.
