Menon to visit Afghanistan to review Security of Indians

The National Security Advisor Mr. Shiv Shanker Menon will be going to Kabul tomorrow to review the Security of the Indians working on several developmental projects across Afghanistan.

The visit comes in the wake of terror attack in Kabul on Friday in which 6 Indians were killed and 10 other injured. Mr. Menon will meet President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, Foreign Minister Zalmay Rassoul and some other leaders.

An Indian team including official of home and defence Ministries has already joined their Afghan counterparts in probing the attack on two hotels. Afghanistan has already set up a 5 member team to investigate the incident.

The Friday attack in Kabul was a third attack on Indian officials and interest in Afghanistan in past twenty months. The Indian Embassy was attacked twice, first in July 2008 and then in October last year. Our correspondent says that nearly 4000 Indians are engaged in reconstruction activities in Afghanistan from building roads, bridges and power stations to training programmes.
