Memorial Plaque remembering Indian Indentured labourers unveiled

A Memorial Plaque remembering Indian Indentured labourers was unveiled by the Union Minister for overseas Indian Affairs Minister Mr. Vayalar Ravi at Kolkata Port on Tuesday. The Plaque named as ‘Kolkata Memorial` jointly set-up by the overseas Indian Affairs ministry and the Kolkata Port Trust. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Ravi said that Indian labourers were forced to go for work at distant areas like Burma, South-East Asia and some other Island countries by the British rulers from the Kolkata Port. He said that Indian labourers glorified the country’s culture and tradition sacrificing their lives on foreign soil. The Railway Minister Miss Mamata Banerjee said that the country will always remember of those labourers who never forget the Indian culture despite facing all odds. The Union Minister of state for shipping Mr. Mukul Roy also spoke on the occasion.
