The Minister of State for Rural Development, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti today informed the Lok Sabha that Members of Parliament had identified two thousand 697 Gram Panchayats (GPs) across the country under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) since its launch.
''
''In a written reply to a question, she said SAGY aims to create a holistically developed model Gram Panchayats across the country.
''
''The minister said the entire programme is implemented in a convergence mode and the District Collector (DM) plays a significant role. The DM conducts a monthly review meeting with representatives of the participating line departments. The Members of Parliament concerned chair the review meetings. The heads of the GPs concerned are invited to these monthly meetings.
''
'' She said, the goal of SAVGY is to translate the comprehensive and organic vision of Mahatma Gandhi on village development into reality. Each MP has to select five Adarsh Grams (one per year) from 2019 to 2024. These Adarsh Grams are desired to serve as a nucleus of health, cleanliness, greenery, and cordiality within village community and become schools of local development and governance, inspiring neighboring Gram Panchayats.
