<br/>A high-level Parliamentary delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is leaving for Bangkok today to attend the Assembly of the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) from March 27 to April 1. <br/><br/>The Assembly will hold discussions on the political, economic and social situation in the world with a theme on "Parliament at the heart of political reconciliation and good governance". <br/><br/>According to a Lok Sabha Secretariat release, during the Assembly, the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security will discuss cooperation and share responsibility in the global fight against organized crime, in particular drug trafficking, illegal arms sales, human trafficking and cross-border terrorism. <br/><br/>In the mean time, the role of Parliaments in developing South-South and Triangular Cooperation with a view to accelerating achievement of the millennium Development Goals and Youth participation in the democratic process would also be discussed. Mrs. Kumar is the Chairperson of the 27-member IPU.
