Meira Kumar asks Jayanti Natrajan to take measures to save river Ganga

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar today asked Environmet Minister Jayanti Natrajan to take effective measures to save the river Ganga. Making an observation in the House during an inconclusive discussion on protecting the Ganga from pollution, she said it is the unanimous view of the House to save the river by all possible means. Mrs Kumar said that the Ganga symbolises the empowerment of women and it should be allowed to flow perennially.

Earlier, the House discussed the rampant pollution of the Ganga. Initiating the discussion on the ruthless exploitation of the river, Mr Rewati Raman Singh, Samajwadi Party, said that the river is in grave danger of survival because of the massive pollution. Members, who participated in the discussion underlined the rapid degradation of the river right from the points of the origin till the end of its course. They demanded urgent steps to ensure the survival of the Ganga.
