<br/>The Lok Sabha Speaker, Mrs. Meira Kumar today advocated for handing over audit of panchayats and urban local bodies to Comptroller and Auditor General of India. Speaking at the inaugural session of the 25th Accountants General conference in New Delhi, she said CAG has a meaningful relation with the Public Accounts Committeee of Parliament. The Speaker said it has been strengthened over the years. Mrs Kumar said in the wake of the growing demand of the people for better delivery of essential goods and social services, other modalities of the relationship between CAG and Public Accounts Committee may have to be explored. She lauded the role of the Indian Audit and Accounts department in carrying out the complex task of auditing and evaluation.<br/><br/> Speaking on the occasion, CAG, Vinod Rai said his organisation always gives priority to improve service delivery to the people. He said CAG, as the trustee of public good, always works with transparency being kept uppermost in mind.
