In Jammu and Kashmir, Opposition PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti today stuck to her decision to stay away from tomorrow's all-party meeting despite an appeal by the Prime Minister to reconsider her stand. The meeting is convened by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar to discuss the situation in the State.<br/> <br/>Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had spoken to Mehbooba yesterday, is understood to have impressed upon her the need for the State government and the opposition to be on the same side to tackle the current situation in violence-hit Kashmir. Dr. Singh requested her to attend the all-party meet.<br/> <br/>Addressing a press conference in Srinagar this afternoon, Mehbooba said, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has himself admitted that his government has become weak. So, she said, there is no point to hold a meeting in this backdrop. She appealed to the Prime Minister to intervene so that the people take his initiative seriously.The PDP leader also requested Dr. Manmohan Singh to lift curbs on the media so that they can carry out their duties. <br/> <br/><br/>The invitation has been extended to all 12 recognised political parties and groups for the meeting. These are– National Conference, Congress, PDP, BJP, Panthers Party, CPI-M, CPI, Peoples Democratic Forum, Democratic Party (Nationalist), Bahujan Samaj Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Nationalist Congress Party.
