An expert said Mehbooba' s swearing in as Chief Minister in time, is pre-requisite to avoid any constitutional crisis in the State.

Decks have been cleared for ruling PDP President and MP Mehbooba Mufti to become the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir following demise of her father and former CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Sayeed died in New Delhi yesterday following a prolonged illness. Our correspondent reports that Sayeed was laid to rest at his native place in Bijbehara town in Anantnag district. <br/><br/>The Party unanimously backed her for the top chair and submitted a letter of support to Governor NN Vohra in this regard. The coalition partner BJP said it will go with PDP's choice on Chief Minister's post. Governor yesterday flew back to winter capital Jammu for procedural formalities. <br/><br/>Fifty seven year old Mehbooba Mufti is likely to be administered the oath of office and secrecy today or after the fourth day ritual of the departed CM. Mehbooba Mufti emerged as political heir of Late Sayeed after she started her political journey in 1990s and won the Assembly elections from Bijbehara segment in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. She has played crucial role in catapulting PDP to power in 2002 and 2014.
