<br/>Meghalaya government has been emphasizing on the need to utilize the Para -IV, of the sixth schedule of the constitution by the police department, for expeditious settlement of petty crimes involving traditional bodies. <br/> <br/>This decision was taken on Thursday at a high level meeting of the Distrcit Collectors and Superintendents of Police of the state Chaired by the state chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma. <br/> <br/>Briefing media persons after the meeting the Chief minister said, in the light of overburdening of petty cases, his government has to subscribe to the idea of trying offences which is punishable minimum for three year of penalty under Indian penal code will be tried out of the traditional courts.<br/> <br/>AIR correspondent reports, apart from normal law and order issues, petty crimes have been over burdening both the police and judiciary in Meghalaya. To ease the increasing burden, state government has taken a decision not to register petty cases either in police stations, or it should be tried in the judiciary.<br/> <br/>The state chief minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma said henceforth, while dealing with petty crimes, police stations and out posts should seek the involvement of the traditional bodies to deal such cases, without having passed out it to the judiciary.<br/>
