The Meghalaya government has sought expertise from Canada to tap into the state's energy resources and greater cooperation across sectors.The state's Planning Board co-chairman John F Kharshiing told reporters in Shillong after meeting representatives from the Government of Canada that the Board had sought their expertise on tapping energy sources including mini-hydro, thermal, solar and also nuclear.He said, the Board felt that the state has tremendous potential in these energy sources. Mr. Kharshiing said, they also suggested that a wind map study in the statecould be considered to properly tap the huge potential available in a hilly state like Meghalaya.The planning board chairman said, detailed discussions were also held on Human resources expertise, Information and Communication Technology, Water Treatment, Waste Management,Mining and Livestock technology, including a cheap road construction technology.The Canadian side also gave a detailed presentation on the possible trade opportunities available from Saskatchewan Province in Canada.The Canadian officials also extended an invitation to the Meghalaya State Planning Board to visit Saskatchewan Province in Canada so as to have a better understanding of their various agro technologies, including livestock, that could benefit Meghalaya.
