Meghalaya remembers U Kiang Nangbah on his 158th death anniversary

In Meghalaya, commemorating the 158th death anniversary of U Kiang Nangbah the freedom fighter from Jaintia Hills, several organizations like Khasi Students Union, Hynniewtrep National Youth Front, Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People and others laid wreaths at the monument of the freedom fighter near Civil Hospital, Shillong.<br />'' <br />''U Kiang Nangbah was hanged by the British publicly at Iawmusiang in Jowai town in West Jaintia Hills district on 30th December 1862 for leading an uprising against the British rule.<br />'' <br />''Remembering the freedom fighter, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in a tweet said, "On his 158th death anniversary, we pay tribute to the martyrdom of U Kiang Nangbah, the freedom fighter from #JaintiaHills of #Meghalaya who led a rebellion against the British army & fought for the rights of the people. Stories of his bravery will always be etched in our hearts."<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">Meanwhile, in Jaintia Hills, the Jaintia Iasiat Khnam Kiang Nangbah Memorial Society (JIKKNMS) observed the 158th death anniversary of freedom fighter U Kiang Nangbah at Madiah Kmai Blai (Syntu- Ksiar) today, a place where a monument and statue of U Kiang Nangbah stands erect.</span><br />
