Meghalaya: Over 1.5 lakh people affected by flood-related incidents in Garo Hills region

<span style="color: #222222;">In Meghalaya, over 1.5 lakh people have been affected by flood-related incidents in Garo Hills region of the state. Unrelenting rain since last morning has left many areas in the region prone to landslides while the plain areas witnessed a rise in water level.<br />'' <br />'' The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning that many parts of the state will receive thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall in many places.<br />'' <br />'' As a precaution, District Administrations have advised people to not venture out unnecessarily and to not go near streams and rivers. Rains in North Garo Hills district have caused all rivers flowing through the district to cross the danger mark. In South West Garo Hills, the District Administration has announced gratuitous relief of four days for nine villages severely affected by the current deluge.<br />'' <br />'' West Khasi Hills district also witnessed another major flash flood after heavy rainfall lashed the district for several hours affecting several houses and residents.<br />''<br />''It may be mentioned that over the past few days, floods in Garo Hills have claimed five lives including four children.</span><br />
