Meghalaya along with the rest of the world on Sunday observed the International Day of Non-Violence to mark the 142nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who stirred India to Independence through the path of non-violence.The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi-popularly known as the ‘Father of the Nation’ known as Gandhi Jayanti, was observed with reverence in Meghalaya by the State Government. The Meghalaya Chief Secretary, W.M.S. Parait along with high Government officials including police top brass police personnel paid homage to the Father of the Nation on the occasion. Pariat led a host of Government officials to place wreathes and flower petals at the foot of the historic statue of Mahatma Gandhi, which stands magnificently at the gate of the Main Secretariat in Shillong.
