Meghalaya & Nagaland go for Assembly polls tomorrow

In Nagaland, all arrangements are complete for smooth conduct of polls. Polling personnel have reached their destinations along with poll materials.Voting will start at seven in the morning and will continue till four in the afternoon.

Altogether 11 lakh 71 thousand 389 voters comprising of 5 lakh 89 thousand 553 females are eligible to exercise their franchise to elect 59 members of the 60-member state assembly tomorrow.

Polling for Tuensang Sadar-I Assembly Constituency had been adjourned after the death of Congress candidate and sitting MLA P. Chuba Chang this morning.

Although female voters comprise of 49 per cent of the total electorates, only two woman candidates are in the electoral fray out of 185.

State Chief Electoral Officer J. Alam informed that the Income Tax officials have seized cash amounting to over 2 crore 89 lakh and 42 thousand bottles of liquor so far from various places during the security drive.

Over 11,300 Polling Personnel including 76 all women polling parties have already reached their respective polling stations. Election will be conducted in 1993 poll segments.

A total number of 2440 EVMs are being dispatched for the conduct of polls.

Over 26 thousand police personnel comprising of 255 Companies of Central paramilitary forces and the State police have been deployed across the State for smooth conduct of election in Nagaland.

In, Meghalya, 345 candidates, including Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and Congress president D D Lapang, are in the fray for the 60-member Assembly.

The Congress has put up candidates in all 60 seats, and ally United Democratic Party in 50. Of the 2,845 polling stations, 900 have been declared 'hyper-sensitive'.

Booths along the international border and the interstate border with Assam have also been categorised as 'hyper-sensitive'. The BSF has deployed 10,000 personnel.
