Meghalaya today joined the nation in celebrating 66th Independence Day. It is being celebrated with colourful programmes across the state. The main function was organised at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the State Capital Shillong, where Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma unfurled the national tricolour. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sangma called upon youth of the state indulged in insurgency activity to leave the path of violence and join the fight against hunger and poverty rather than play into the hands of anti-national elements and foreign inimical forces. He stressed on the infrastructure development for overall socio-economic development of the state. The Chief Minister also emphasised on the need of accelerated growth of the state economy through various approaches, including international trade.
